oldest form of jewellery made
and worn in India is the 24 carat pure gold Kundan
jewellery. Kundan works
is a method of gem setting, consisting of inserting gold foil between the
stones and it's mount. Kundan jewellery received great patronage during
the Mughal era and the most mesmerizing pieces were created in
those times. 'Mena Kundan' work of art of enameling with brilliant colours and design was done on the reverse of a jewellery piece, along with the Kundan setting in the front. 'Mena Kundan' also known as Bikaneri or Jaipuri Jewellery. Today the finest Kundan jewellery is made in Bikaner, in Rajesthan. The Historical Aura associated with this jewellery, that is once worn by only kings and queens, is what make it so attractive. As they'll tell you, Kundan jewellery, like wine gets better with time. Despite the fusion of Western Morden days jewellery in the culture, on occasions like Wedding and Festivals, Indian women always prefer the traditional and the Ethnic look--- bedecked and be jewellery in their complete finery. |
